The Reds can’t keep pace with the Mustangs falling in the Quarterfinals. The Reds were able to stay right with the top team in the state through the first half and partwary into the second half but the Mustangs were too much for the Reds to handle as they pulled away in the second half. The Reds finish the season after reaching the Quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

Emma Page crossing the finish line
Girls Cross Country team brings home State Title. The Cedar Reds Girls Varsity Cross Country team brought home the 4A State Title Tuesday afternoon for the 10th time in school history but the first time since 2007. Emma Page who took 2nd place last season blazed through the Rose Park Course finishing 5 seconds ahead of the next competitor. To win a state title in cross country teams count the scores of the placement of each of their top 5 runners, trying to score as few points as possible. The Reds knew the Pine View Panthers have had a strangle hold on the title winning the last 3 championships and 5 of the last 6 and we needed to out run them to bring home the title. The Reds did just that as the top 5 runners for the Reds finished in the top 14 runners out of the 13 schools competing. Emma Page took 1st with Mayce Dalton finishing 4th overall and Marissa Oveson 6th to all earn medals, but it was the 4th and 5th runners for the Reds Callie Peterson and Lucy Eckley finishing 12th and 14th overall that secured the title as they finished in front of the final PV runner to secure the title. Congratulations Girls!

Girls XC posing after Championship race
The Cedar Reds Boys Cross Country team came into the state meet hoping to improve on their 3rd place finish in Region the week before with the top teams in the state hailing from Region 10. The Cedar runners ran a great race sticking together as they pushed towards the finish line with the top 5 racers within the top 11 spots coming down the stretch. Unfortunately they fell slightly off pace and Desert Hills and Snow Canyon were able to finish in front of the top 5 for the Reds. Cedar Scored 61 points, with Justin Dodds finishing 7th and Braxten Gifford 10th to each earn medal spots. Spencer Heaton and Spencer Shakespeare finished 12 and 13th respectively with Logan Peel rounding out the top 5 for the Reds at #19. Well done boys.

It was a defensive battle from the opening kickoff and the Cedar Reds defense was able to keep the Grizzlies off of the scoreboard to collect a shutout victory and move onto the state quarterfinals. The only score of the game was late in the first quarter as QB Koden Lunt took the snap and scampered into the end zone for a 6 yard touchdown run. Edgar Hernandez-Hinojosa tacked on the Extra Point for the Reds to give them a 7-0 lead which ended up being the difference in the game. Logan had two opportunities in which they were able to get the ball inside the 10 yard line. After the Reds scored their touchdown the Grizzlies drove the ball down to the 6 yard line early in the second quarter but were held off the board as their field goal attempt sailed wide. Neither team could find much offensive rhythm as offensive penalties plagued both sides. Late in the 4th quarter Logan had an opportunity to tie the game late as they drove down inside the 10 yard line once again, reaching the 8, however a 4th down conversion fell short with and incomplete pass on 4th and 3. With no timeouts left the Grizzlies were unable to stop the clock as the Reds took a knee in victory formation. The Win puts the Reds in the Quarterfinals vs. Crimson Cliffs next Friday night.

Quarterback throwing the ball
The Cedar Reds Volleyball team picked up their 20th victory of the season as they closed out the regular season by defeating the Pine View Panthers in 4 sets. The Panthers came out quickly as they took game 1 from the highly favored Reds 25-23. Cedar settled into the match in the second set defeating the Panthers handily 25-16 and kept that momentum rolling into the 3rd set to handle the Panthers 25-12. Pine View wasn’t going to go quietly on Senior night as they battled the Reds to the very end forcing the match into extra points before the Reds were able to finally take the 4th set 26-24 finishing off the Panthers. The Reds now look for the final RPI reveal to determine their seeding for the State Tournament. Congratulations girls!

The Cedar Reds came out on fire to start the night on Senior night as they dominated the first set by the score of 25-14. Led by Emery Harrison and Liko Fallou on the outsides and Shimada and Ludlow in the Middle the Reds took control of the set early running out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back taking the set handily. Set #2 didn’t go the Reds way as a tightly contested match was evenly played from the start up until the Thunder took control after the teams reached 17 pionts. The Thunder finished off set number two 25-19 to even the match at 1 set a piece. The rest of the night belonged to the Reds.
