Iron County School District Mission, Vision, Values and Goals

The ICSD Board, district administration, and district leadership team are committed to the education and well-being of each student and educator. As members of a professional learning community, we have identified a school improvement framework that is supported by our collective mission, vision, shared values, and goals that will guide the policies, procedures, processes, priorities, and day-to- day decisions of the district. We will acknowledge and address behaviors that are inconsistent with the district’s mission, vision, values and goals.

S.M.A.R.T Goal:

All professional learning community teams will increase their level of functionality by a minimum of 10% over the course of the school year as measured by the ICSD Professional Learning Team and Building Leadership Team (PLT & BLT) Reflection Rubric.

Anecdotal and observation data can also be considered in determining increased functionality.

Student Achievement

  • Mathematics within our district MTSS Framework
    • Increase student math achievement in grades K-12

S.M.A.R.T. Goals:

  1. We will increase the percentage of students growth in math proficiency by 5% as measured by common formative assessments in grades PreK-12. Baseline data will be collected using the state’s new RISE assessment for grades 3-8, Utah Aspire Plus for grades 9-10, and ACT for 11th grade.
  • Literacy within our district MTSS Framework
    • Increase student literacy achievement in ELA grades K-12

S.M.A.R.T. Goals:

  1. We will continue to increase the level of expertise and preparation for all those who monitor educator effectiveness during the 2018-2019 school year by providing monthly instruction for our certified instructional leaders targeted at strengthening relationships and promoting and supporting a positive school culture. This capacity and functionality will be measured using the following tools:

  2. We will increase the level of student cognitive engagement and responsibility for learning in all classrooms by at least 10% as a result of each school choosing a high-leverage, evidence-based instructional strategy (metacognition, feedback, questioning, opportunities to respond or self-efficacy) on which to focus for the 2018-2019 school year. This will be measured by regular administrator and peer observations and/or video self-reflections.

As part of the effort to achieve district goals, Iron County School District provides Title 1 supplemental funding and resources to assist six of the nine Iron County elementary schools. The schools in Iron County that qualify for Title 1 services are:

The purpose of the Title 1 program is to improve the academic achievement of every student, particularly the lowest achieving students. The federal government disburses money to our school district based on the number of low-income families determined by census data. Decisions for the use of funds and resources are made in coordination between the district and Title 1 schools. Title I money is used to supplement and improve regular education programs offered to help students meet state standards. The funds are used to provide extra services and programs such as:

Each school participating in the Title 1 program is required to develop a Title 1 plan and make it available to the district to ensure compliance with rigorous federal and state regulations. A team comprised of administrator, reading specialist, teachers, teaching assistants, and parents develop this comprehensive plan. It is reviewed on a yearly basis and changes are made to meet the needs of students. A copy of this plan is placed in every school office and is available for parent review. An annual review of school progress is conducted to determine if each school has made adequate progress toward meeting or exceeding proficiency standards for all students.
