School starts for ICSD students on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. We'll once again see our familiar yellow school buses out picking up students at bus stops and dropping them off at the stops again after school.
We would like to remind all drivers to be extremely cautious and obey laws for flashing lights and stop arms on the buses in order to keep our students safe as they cross streets walking to and from the buses.
Here are some startling statistics:
Last spring, school districts from around the country participated in a one-day count of illegal school bus passing incidents. The 130,073 bus drivers who participated reported 95,319 school bus stop arm violations. Nationwide during the 2018-19 school year, there were 70 injuries related to school bus crossings and 17 fatalities.
Please remind all drivers in your households to 1. SLOW DOWN when school bus overhead lights are flashing yellow 2. STOP when school bus overhead lights are flashing red and stop arm is extended 3. PROCEED WITH CAUTION when school bus hazard lights are flashing
Let's keep our students safe!
