Parowan High School's annual Veterans Day Program was held this morning in the PHS auditorium. The program was constructed and led by their awesome student government leaders that were supported by advisors, teachers and administrators. The music and spoken word were inspiring, to say the least. A reading of poet John McRae's "In Flanders Fields" was adeptly read by Emmy Orton, Senior Class President.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
Local veterans, who are PHS alumni, were honored for their service through a slide show that recognized their year of graduation and side by side depiction of their senior picture and a picture showing them engaged in serving our country. The program concluded with all of the junior and senior class students singing the service anthems associated with each branch of service. Well done PHS!
