Friday Update from Superintendent Dulaney, May 7, 2021

My Dear Friends,

It’s Friday… welcome to the weekend! As I took a look at my calendar this morning, the scheduled events are evidence that we are nearing the end of the year: student activities, spring sports, end-of-year concerts, field trips and graduation ceremonies are upon us. The fact that we are together, still in school, and, again, no school closures, and… our students and their families are able to have a somewhat normal close to the school year, makes my heart happy. This week, I’d like to offer a sincere THANK YOU to our teachers. Yes, it has been teacher appreciation week this week, but I hope our wonderful educators have felt appreciated many times this year for their constant and heroic care and professionalism in the face of difficult circumstances.

Here are our COVID stats for this week:

Total Positive cases since August 25th – 661
Total student positive cases – 492
Total employee positive cases –169
Total current active cases – 5
Total recovered cases – 656
Positive student cases related to school attendance – 36
Positive employee cases related to school attendance – 12
Total number of employees and students currently quarantined – 20
Total number of students quarantined since August 25th – 2,753
Total number of employees quarantined since August 25th – 216

Below, is a link to a video that Governor Spencer Cox and his team, along with the Resilient Utah organization, put together to honor our Utah educators and the exemplary work they have done in behalf of students over the last year. I am grateful for this thoughtful recognition, and I echo the message being shared. Our teachers deserve EVERY accolade and honor possible. They ARE heroes. The work they have done and continue to do is MAKING A DIFFERENCE: not just for our kids, but for our collective communities. They are valuable and deserve every bit of gratitude we can give! Teachers… YOU ARE AMAZING, and I feel so honored to know you and to have associated with you all!

With much love and appreciation,

Shannon
