My Dear Friends,

One more week of third quarter and closer to a four-day break. We have about 10 weeks of school remaining in the school year. It certainly has been a challenging journey: filled with obstacles and uncertainty. However, through it all you have remained committed to learning and supporting your students and each other. You have inspired me in ways that I cannot adequately express. This week, a sincere THANK YOU to all of you! Below, are this week’s COVID stats:

Positive employee cases related to school attendance – 12
Total number of employees and students currently quarantined – 77
Total number of students quarantined since August 25th – 2,538
Total number of employees quarantined since August 25th – 201

As some of you know, we lost an exemplary educator just a few days ago. Parowan Elementary School 5th grade teacher and friend, Mike Robinson, fought valiantly, but lost his battle with cancer. As I visited the school and spoke with members of his team on Wednesday, we shared memories of Mike and acknowledged his influence not just in our lives, but in the lives of ALL the students he loved, ALL the families he served, and ALL the colleagues he supported. Mike was a humble, kind, and gracious man: an example of hard work, care, and compassion. He lifted so many, and we are thankful for his life of service. We will truly miss him and his presence at PES and in the Iron County School District. Our sincerest condolences and love to Debbie and their family.

Below is a link to a short video: Jason Mraz singing and the lyrics to “Have it ALL”. I was told that this is the song that Mike chose for a school flag ceremony last year. The words are fitting of his generous personality and so relatable as we think about what we want for our great students, each other, and our own families. Have a wonderful weekend!

Love,

Shannon
