Dear Friends,

Yay… it’s Friday! I hope this message finds you well. As you can see from the data below, our numbers are “slowing down” in regards to the numbers of positive cases. Thank you for all you continue to do to help with this effort. As you may be aware, March 2nd is Read Across America Day. I’d like to recognize our librarians and media specialists today. They are critical to the work we do in every school. The connections they make with kids as well as all they do to inspire a love of books and reading is critical. A heart-felt THANK YOU to them all! Here’s this week’s COVID data:

Total Positive cases since August 25th – 581
Total student positive cases – 426
Total employee positive cases –155
Total current active cases – 16
Total recovered cases – 565
Positive student cases related to school attendance – 36
Positive employee cases related to school attendance – 12
Total number of employees and students currently quarantined – 84
Total number of students quarantined since August 25th – 2,511
Total number of employees quarantined since August 25th – 198

Each of you truly are heroes. You are making a difference. You are teaching. You are still laughing. You are caring and connecting with kids. YOU. ARE. PRESENT. And I am beyond grateful for all you do to support kids and families. We currently have more the 300 students in our community who are considered homeless. That dynamic, with the challenges of COVID and the winter weather, is extremely challenging for these families who, at times, are living in cars and tents, and relying on our wonderful community services: Care and Share and other shelters, our district homeless services etc., for food, temporary shelter… a place to be warm and safe for a time. I am so thankful for all you do to recognize, accept, love and serve these kids every day. Below, is one of my favorite clips from the film “Freedom Writers” that can serve as a visual reminder as to how important each of you truly are, especially in these kids’ lives and the lives of their families. I am honored to associate with you and humbled by your dedication and service.

With love and gratitude,

Shannon
