Superintendent’s Friday Update
November 20, 2020
Good morning friends!
Thanksgiving is upon us, which always brings deep feelings of gratitude. As I drove home from work yesterday evening, I couldn’t help but to count my blessings. There was a beautiful sun setting to the west; shades of pink and gold with tinges of lavender filled the sky and provided a scenic backdrop for homes, parks and places of worship. Neighbors were out walking the quiet streets, and a beautiful American hymn was playing on a CD I had popped in the car’s system earlier in the day. The words “’’tis a gift to be simple, tis a gift to be free…” resounded amidst all of this. It was one of those moments in time that you remember and are able to recall when things get difficult. Please take time to discover these moments.
Yes, we have all been working through some challenging circumstances: circumstances we would not have chosen. Your continued service and care for children and each other has been inspiring, and I am grateful for each educator, support staff, parent and citizen that has knit together in unity around our students and our community.
Today, I’d like to give a “shout out” to our phenomenal custodians who are working with diligence to keep our buildings clean. Thank you!!! The following statistics show our current numbers regarding COVID-19 in the Iron County School District. …just a reminder to continue to be vigilant in wearing masks, distancing, and increasing sanitation efforts. Again, we appreciate you staying home when sick so we can keep each other safe and in school.

A few weeks ago, one of my childhood friends posted the following quote from Pope Francis on her social media feed that I believe is wise counsel for us all as we continue to navigate our current circumstances. He said, “Rivers do not drink their own water, trees do not eat their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is…Life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you.”
Have a wonderful weekend and a “happy” Thanksgiving holiday!
With love and appreciation,
