Canyon View High School Band and Orchestra

On May 17th, the Canyon View High School Band and Orchestra held their annual Spring Concert. These groups are led by teacher/conductor David Jordan. Mr. Jordan's ability to teach and capitalize on each student's musical talents as well as promote a passion for music is exemplary. The caliber of music performed, challenged student abilities and they certainly rose to the occasion and met that challenge. Particularly noteworthy was the Philharmonic Orchestra's performance of Haydn's Symphony No. 104, 4th movement. This piece was played as Haydn composed it. It was not a simplified or adapted version of the original piece... impressive! It contained all the nuances and musicality that usually accompanies more seasoned performers.

The Concert Band, Sinfonia, and Wind Ensemble performed works by La Plante, Ravel, Vivaldi, Holst and Sousa: all were entertaining. The future of the Band and Orchestra programs at Canyon View High School is bright! These students showed discipline and commitment to each performance.

The evening was concluded with a combined Wind Ensemble and Philharmonic Orchestra performance of Richard Saucedo's "Spirit of the Falcon" in celebration of the school's 20th Anniversary. The music was inspiring and a fitting end to a year of learning and growth for these young musicians. Thank you Mr. Jordan and all those who support these great kids!
