Enoch Elementary - Our school-wide “Smarty Party” was a huge success. It was so fun to celebrate all of the amazing ways Enoch students are smart. Dance, sports, and service—the list of ways to show achievement goes on and on. This highlight of our week was a friendly academic competition between the fifth grade students and teachers. We appreciated Superintendent Jim Johnson visiting our school to encourage the students and praise their efforts to be the best they can be. Our Title I aides have worked so hard to assess each student to pinpoint reading growth. What a talented group of people we have working as part of our Title I program. They diligently serve our school with smiles on their faces. Led by Reading Specialists, Trudy Savage and Carlynn Barton, these aides help the teachers and students tirelessly. We want to acknowledge their efforts and tell them how appreciated they are.
Fiddlers Elementary - We awarded our attendance, math, and exemplary citizenship winners this Tuesday. It's so much fun to celebrate our students' efforts and it is wonderful to see how many students receive awards. It is common for more students to receive an award than not. Way to go students and parents! We hope for a great third quarter. The Book Mobile will be back this Thursday, the 26th and our 5th grade DARE graduation will be this Friday, the 27th. Please contact the school for more details.
North Elementary - North Elementary would like to thank Todd Jones and his crew for the great work they’ve done on our computer lab the past couple of weeks. They have erected a wall between the two sides, which will allow us to more fully use all the computers there for student instruction. Without the barrier in between, it was difficult to use all 60 computers at the same time. This is one more step in our efforts to get ready for our STEAM/SUU Partnership school opening next fall. Our plans for the SUU Pre-school, to be located at North next fall, are also moving ahead. We are excited to offer this service as part of our overall partnership with SUU. We remind parents who live outside our school boundaries that there are still K-5 vacancies available for next fall. If we can answer any questions about what our school can offer your child, please don’t hesitate to call 586-2845.
Parowan Elementary - Students at Parowan Elementary recently completed this year’s Reflections contest. One hundred fifteen students participated in a variety of categories. Participating students were awarded a big candy bar as well as the winners taking home a cash award. The entire school was treated to a video presentation featuring all of the entries. Thanks to the PTA for doing such a great job of encouraging the creativity of the students in our school, as well as supporting our school in so many other ways. We look forward to participating again next year.
South Elementary - This week South Elementary is joining forces with SUU by participating in a food drive that will benefit members of our local community. Students are encouraged to bring canned and packaged foods to their classrooms for collection. The class with the most items donated gets a pizza or ice cream party and the school with the most items donated gets 500 free tickets to athletic events at SUU. The food drive will end Friday, January 27th, so be sure to get your items donated before then! Also, we have rescheduled our McDonald’s fundraiser for Monday, January 30th. Money raised from items bought INSIDE McDonald’s between 6 and 8 pm will be donated to our school to help pay for new school supplies and resources (drive-thru purchases do not count toward the fundraiser). Please come out that night and support our school!
Canyon View Middle - Congratulations to the following students who placed in the District Reflections Contest: Literature—McKay Yorgason, 1st, Allyson Berri, 2nd, Hannah Warden, 3rd; Visual Arts—Jessica Cunningham, 3rd; Photography—Brielle Fullmer, 1st; Music—Seth Edwards, 2nd. McKay and Brielle will now compete in the regional competition. Good Luck! CVMS had 20 students attend the ‘Leaders for Life’ conference sponsored by the Safety Solutions Coalition. This was a great opportunity to learn leadership skills, hear guest speakers and have fun. GYC members enjoyed a bowling activity on January 25th. GYC is selling carnations to be delivered on Valentine’s Day. The cost is $2 and they can be purchased during lunch or at the business window by parents and students. Sixth Grade students worked extra hard second quarter. As a result, 184 students qualified for a Cougar Pride activity at the Aquatic Center on January 20. Sixth Grade teachers want parents to know how much they appreciate their help and support. Seventh Grade students who qualified for Cougar Pride will be at the Aquatic Center today (January 27) for their activity. Honor Society members are selling Spirit Bracelets for $1.00. On February 1, Honor Society members will enjoy a performance by the CVHS ‘Makedo’ Improv Group after school.
Cedar Middle - Our 8th Grade CMS Band students are gearing up for a special "Welcome To High School" performance on the 26th of January. They have been invited to perform some challenging pieces on the stage of the Cedar High School auditorium. We hope the parents of all 8th Grade band students will encourage them to remain in band throughout high school. Good luck CMS musicians! Congratulations to 8th grader Marta Munford whose beautiful Peace poster for our local chapter of Lions Club International won first place at district and state level. The poster will now be considered for the top 25 on the international level in Washington DC! The 2nd semester ski/snowboard trip is scheduled for February 2nd. P.E. students can pick up a packet in the office. Packets are due in the office by 3:00 on January 31st or the first 100 completed packets. Here are the Warrior of the Month winners for January: 6th Grade, Karyssa Colvin; 7th Grade, Carval Allan; 8th Grade, Emily Johnson. Employee of the Month: Mr. Brent Banks. 7th graders are having a Warrior Pride Activity on January 27. They will be going bowling during their Core classes.
